Koombana Bay is home to local wild Bottlenose Dolphins, and the Dolphin Discovery Centre (in Bunbury WA, 90 minutes south of Perth) promotes research, conservation and education of these and other native marine life.

The new Discovery Centre opened in December 2018 and includes a $2 million upgrade to the interpretive experience of the Koombana Bay environment and its history - geological, indigenous, marine and contemporary. It tells the story of the region from freshwater river to offshore reef, and provides a unique experience combining embedded technology and natural displays to augment the wild dolphin beach interaction zone and dolphin tours.
